I have a diverse HR background that ranges from management coaching and mentoring, career coaching, through to advising clients on recruitment strategies and working with organisations and individuals going through change.

I have carried out recruitment assignments in the private and public sectors. Reviewing processes, coaching managers in recruitment practices, undertaking reviews and being a member of interview panels.

I coach and mentor senior and mid-level managers. I work with individuals who are seeking career coaching and personal development. I have a strong interest in portfolio working and helping people transition from permanent employment into ways of working differently.

Recent HR assignments have included defining team values and charters, carrying out investigations, assisting people with career audits, and reviewing HR processes.

When I think of careers, I always remember this quote:

My background includes a number of years in information management, human resources, commercial recruitment and management consulting working in international management and HR specialist consultancies, prior to making the move into self-employment.

My career in HR Management began in the late 1980s when I established and managed the Human Resources unit within the National Library of New Zealand.

In 1995, Victoria University appointed me as its first Director of Human Resource Management. Several years later I began the HR management consulting and contracting business that is now KSJ Associates Ltd.

I took time out for four years (2005 – 2009), following on from a consulting assignment, to establish and manage the HR function for the Horowhenua District Council.

My background prior to HR management was initially in the NZ Customs Service, concluding as Private Secretary to the Minister of Customs. I then spent two years with the State Services Commission’s Training & Development division as a Programme Manager for the Management Skills Programme.

Recent consulting assignments include capability reviews, CEO evaluations, HR process reviews, facilitation, and various organisation development assignments.

I am an accredited facilitator of the Myers Briggs Type Indicator (Step II), which I use with both individuals and work teams.

I have been a member of the Human Resource Institute of New Zealand since 1988 and served on its National Council in 1995 and 1996.
